Product Information

L-Phenylalanine, L-tyrosine, and L-DOPA, all are precursors to the biological pigment (melanin). The enzyme tyrosinase catalyse the oxidation of L-DOPA to the reactive intermediate dopaquinone, which reacts further, eventually leading to melanin. Glutathione competitively inhibits melanin synthesis by interrupting L-DOPA’s ability to bind with tyrosinase during melanin synthesis.

Although the synthesized melanin was aggregated within one hour, the aggregation was inhibited by the addition of glutathione. This indicates that glutathione inhibits the synthesis and agglutination of melanin.
